ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION:

The Harrison Township Environmental Commission has lost a few good members recently due to extra pressures from their work schedules.  This is just a sign of the times but the Commission still needs a few volunteers who have the time and desire to help.

If you have some time to spare and want to become active in your township, consider applying for membership on the Environmental Commission.  They meet once a month.  Most of their activities involve reviewing site plans and implementing public information projects.  We are not “tree huggers” but we are an advocate for environmental issues in Harrison Township.  There is really only one requirement; you must be a resident of Harrison Township.  Otherwise, just be interested in contributing to the work this group is doing.  Serving on the Environmental Commission does not require previous experience.

ADHOC Committee / Henry Harris Landfill – Calling all Residents! Have you ever wondered what steps are involved in the clean-up of the landfill and what potential uses the land might have, once the revitalization is completed? Volunteers of the community are needed to study reclamation of the site and help to address public concerns relating to the closure of the Henry Harris Landfill.

Municipal Alliance Committee – Would you like to learn more about the inner workings of your community? The Municipal Alliance program has vacancies and needs Harrison Township residents willing to volunteer to help. Members include representatives from the governing body, education, local law enforcement and concerned residents. The Municipal Alliance Committee was established to help prevent substance abuse, underage drinking, juvenile delinquency and more.

Veterans Commission – Are you a veteran of the armed services who is interested in preserving the memory and recognizing the dedication of all of our veterans? The newly created “Harrison Township Veterans Commission” is looking for volunteers. This commission was created to help promote Veteran’s rights, and to cooperate with the county, state and federal veterans agencies so as to provide better service to veterans who are residents of the Township of Harrison. Members of the commission may be asked to help with ceremonies honoring veterans, and to assist, advise and promote the maintenance of the Township Memorials.
